Apprenticeships in Fictionmentoring & manuscript appraisal

Adventures in Fiction is a writer-oriented consultancy solely dedicated to the art of fiction. We provide mentoring and editorial advice to writers at all stages in their careers as well as running the groundbreaking Apprenticeships in Fiction scheme. This is a national competition that offers five aspiring writers the opportunity to work with a professional practitioner within a one-year professional development programme.

Adventures In Fiction is a highly creative company with a constantly evolving range of services. With the Apprenticeships in Fiction scheme now approaching its third year, we are seeking professional novelists to join our small team.

We take a practical step-by-step approach to the business of writing fiction and are looking for novelists with a similar workman-like attitude. If you are a mid-career novelist who can communicate the creative and technical demands of the novel to a range of abilities and possess all of the following qualities we would love to hear from you.

At least two novels published by a mainstream publisher
Some experience of teaching, mentoring or manuscript appraisal work
A genuine commitment to supporting new writers
A talent for breaking down and communicating the process of writing a novel into manageable stages
A plain speaking, robust approach
Empathy
A sense of humour
A generous nature
An ability to meet deadlines
Some direct experience or understanding of the process of marginalisation. (Writers from working class and ethnic minority backgrounds are particularly welcome.)

Whilst this work requires a level of commitment, it is offered on an occasional part-time freelance basis with generous levels of remuneration. For the right individuals, this is an opportunity to become involved in a genuinely rewarding process.

Apprenticeships In Fiction aims to encourage diversity, excellence and originality.
