APPRENTICESHIPS 2011 – Entry Requirements

The scheme is suitable for writers who have already produced a complete or almost complete draft of a novel. Candidates will be expected to meet a number of key deadlines and to aim towards concluding the programme with a novel in final draft.

You will need to submit:·

• A completed application form
• One or two chapters of a novel/or the first thirty pages
• A synopsis (One page)
• A statement about how you envisage balancing the demands of the programme with your personal commitments. (Up to half a page)
• A personal profile, including background and writing experience. This may include information about how long you have been working on your novel, stage reached, courses attended, and how you feel you may benefit from the scheme. (Up to half a page)
• Processing fee of £15.00

OPTIONAL

• A full story outline (Up to five pages)

Submission packages will be accepted by post only. Manuscripts should be in 12pt. font and double-spaced. Supporting documents (profile, synopsis, etc.) should be 12pt. font single-spaced. Please submit the statement and personal profile together on one page.

Overseas applicants: In special circumstances we will accept applications by email attachment. In this instance the processing fee is £20.00 and may be paid by direct bank transfer. Please contact us to make arrangements.

There are issues I never suspected and I can see that there is a fair amount of work to do. But it’s wonderful to get such a good sense of what I need to do, and a complete breath of fresh air after all the struggling alone.
